The single most valuable component on a modern PWC is the engine, and the second is the pump assembly. Even when an engine has hydro-locked or seized, the surrounding hardware - electrical box, gauges, handlebars, seats, hull hardware, intercoolers and superchargers on the performance models - remains sought after by owners keeping a good ski on the water.

That is why we can pay for a ski that a dealer will not touch. We are not valuing it as a repair job, we are valuing it as a source of parts other people are actively looking for, plus the aluminium and recyclable content in the trailer.

If the ski does still run, say so clearly when you call, along with the hours if the gauge shows them. A running ski with a clean hull and a straight trailer is in a completely different price bracket and we would rather resell it than dismantle it.

A ski that has been submerged is the classic write-off situation. Insurance will often settle rather than repair, because salt water in the engine and electrics means a rebuild that costs more than the machine. That leaves the owner with a hull they cannot legally dump and no easy way to move it.

We take those. Sunk skis, salt-corroded skis, fire-damaged skis and trailer-rollover wrecks are all normal collections for us. We remove the fuel, oil and battery for licensed disposal, recover the reusable components, and recycle the metal rather than sending the machine to landfill.
