In Survey, Out of Survey, or End of Life
A vessel with current survey and clean documentation is worth the most, because a buyer can put it straight to work. If your boat is in that position, get the certificates, the maintenance log and the engine hours together before you call - they materially affect the number.
A vessel out of survey is a different conversation. Re-certification can involve slipping, plate thickness testing, engine and steering work, safety equipment renewal and stability documentation, and the cost of that programme comes off any commercial buyer offer. We price it realistically rather than pretending the work does not exist, and we still buy.
An end-of-life vessel is valued on recovery: main and auxiliary engines, gensets, gearboxes, shafts and props, hydraulics, electronics, deck gear, and the aluminium or steel in the hull. That is often more than owners expect, and it is always better than paying a contractor to make the boat disappear.
