An outboard is the single most commonly undervalued item in an Australian shed. Even a motor that will not start carries real value in its powerhead, gearcase, lower unit, cowling and electrical components, because the parts market for outboards is strong and dealer prices for new components are high.

Two-stroke motors that have fallen out of favour for new sales still have a very active second-hand life, particularly in tinnies and tenders. Larger four-strokes are worth more again. If you have several motors, or a motor plus a trailer plus assorted gear, price it as one lot with us.

When you call, tell us the make, the horsepower, the shaft length and whether it turns over. Photographs of the cowling data plate and the gearcase are the fastest way to a firm number.
