A traction battery failure ends the working life of most electric forklifts, because a new battery is a major purchase and a reconditioned one is a gamble. The machine then sits, and because it cannot be driven onto a truck it becomes awkward to move as well as worthless to operate.

That is a good outcome for a seller dealing with us rather than a bad one. Lead-acid traction batteries are heavy and their lead content is genuinely valuable to recyclers, so a failed battery is an asset in a scrap valuation even while it is a liability in an operating one. The mast, forks, hydraulics, motors, controller and steel frame add to that.

If the unit still holds a charge and drives, say so - a working electric forklift with a healthy battery is worth considerably more resold than dismantled, and we would rather find it a new home.

When a warehouse or factory closes, the forklift is rarely the only thing left. Racking has to come down, benches and conveyors have to go, and the accumulated steel, cable and non-ferrous scrap has to be cleared before the lease is handed back. Landlords have deadlines and they are not flexible.

We handle those clearances as one job. One valuation covering the plant, the racking and the scrap, one collection programme scheduled around your handover date, and one settlement. Where items are worth more sold separately we will say so rather than fold them quietly into a bulk figure.
