Where the Value Sits in a Bus
On a serviceable bus, the drivetrain and compliance status carry the price. A known engine and transmission combination with documented servicing, current inspection and a straight body puts a bus straight back into work, and that is worth real money.
On an end-of-life bus, the recoverable list is long: engine and engine core, gearbox, diffs, axles, air brake components, compressor, radiator, alternator and starter, air conditioning, doors and door gear, seats, glass, wheels and tyres. Behind all of that is a very large steel and aluminium tonnage, which is why buses scrap far better than most people expect.
Motorhome converters are also an active market for older coaches with sound bodies and running drivelines, so a bus that is finished as a passenger vehicle is not necessarily finished as an asset.
