Brisbane's inner-north and riverside pocket behaves nothing like the wider used car market. In Ascot, Hamilton, Clayfield, New Farm, Bulimba and Hawthorne, the vehicle in the garage is more likely to be a European sedan, a large SUV or a second car that has done very few kilometres for its age.
That changes the maths in three specific ways:
- Low-kilometre, high-age vehicles are common. A twelve-year-old car with 60,000 km on it is a genuinely different asset to the same model with 220,000 km. It should not be valued the same way.
- Service history is usually intact. Full logbooks from a marque dealer materially lift what a buyer will pay, because it removes guesswork about the timing chain, transmission service and suspension bushes.
- Repair economics flip earlier. A single out-of-warranty repair on a prestige European vehicle can exceed the car's trade value. That is why plenty of perfectly presentable cars in these suburbs are sitting unregistered rather than being fixed.
